CRISIS COMMUNICATIONS
During any corporate bankruptcy proceeding, controlling the
flow and content of information is critical. By not communicating
a compelling turnaround story to its customers, its vendors, its
employees and its investors, a company stands little chance of
successfully emerging from Chapter 11. Similarly, by not
aggressively taking steps to address and combat negative and
sometimes misleading stories, a company in bankruptcy runs
the risk of staying there.
Understanding the challenges faced by a company in bankruptcy,
as well as the substantive procedures involved in a bankruptcy
proceeding, is critical to the formulation of a Chapter 11 communication strategy.
Harrington Communications offers unique strategic
communications expertise to troubled companies which
may
face the prospect of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.
Led by Jay Harrington, Harrington Communications'
corporate restructuring communications practice has
bankruptcy knowledge and expertise unmatched by
other public relations and communications firms.
Prior to founding Harrington Communications, Mr. Harrington
represented large, multi-national companies as legal counsel
in their Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. A graduate of the
University of Michigan Law School, he practiced in the Corporate
Restructuring practice group of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher &
Flom LLP, one of the world's largest and most prestigious law
firms. While at Skadden, he represented companies such as
Comdisco, Inc., Eagle Food Centers, Inc. and Orius Corp. in their
Chapter 11 proceedings. Thereafter, Mr. Harrington practiced in
the Business Reorganizations practice group of 1,000 lawyer,
national law firm Foley & Lardner LLP. Located in Foley's Detroit
office, he gained considerable experience representing, and
learning the unique issues facing, domestic and foreign
automotive suppliers. A member of Foley's Automotive Industry
team, he represented large Tier 1 automotive suppliers, such
as Intermet Corporation, in their bankruptcy proceedings.
This considerable, substantive, real-world experience in the
corporate bankruptcy arena means that Harrington
Communications can quickly and effectively implement a
communications strategy for a company in or on the brink of
Chapter 11, without wasting valuable time familiarizing itself
with the legal intricacies of the bankruptcy process. This critical
advantage makes Harrington Communications the right partner
for any company undertaking a restructuring.
